WHO WE ARE
Norwest Engineering, Inc. is a professional engineering firm headquartered in Portland, Oregon, with additional offices in Southern California, and Houston. We provide multi-discipline engineering and design services including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical. Norwest manages procurement, permitting, and construction as dictated by our clients, often supporting projects anywhere from conceptual design to commissioning and startup (EPCM).
Since 1975, we have built a reputation for providing outstanding service and high-quality deliverables on time-sensitive projects. We attribute our continued success and national growth to satisfied clients who request our services on projects all over North America.

meet the board
Norwest’s Board of Directors are leaders who take a hands-on approach to running the company. They contribute significant amounts of time, talent, and energy to further Norwest’s mission, vision and values. Collectively, these three individuals have over 80 years of industry experience, with 65 years of serving Norwest in various capacities.
MICHAEL SMITH, PE
Mr. Smith is Principal and President for Norwest Engineering with over 25 years of industrial project engineering and management experience. Mr. Smith has a proven record of running complex operations, cross-functional teams, and multi-million dollar projects as an effective leader and key contributor. Mr. Smith effectively directs Norwest’s project staff to ensure that all aspects of the company’s responsibilities are carried out in accordance to clients’ individual project objectives, schedules, and budgets. His extensive project experience includes but is not limited to heavy industrial projects including petroleum terminals, tank farms, and refineries.
Brian Kaiser, PE
Mr. Kaiser is the Vice President of Engineering, having oversight responsibilities for all engineering projects at Norwest Engineering (Norwest). Brian also serves as a Senior Project Manager on some of Norwest’s largest projects, most critical to our company’s success. He possesses more than 20 years of consulting engineering experience with a background that includes project management, detailed engineering, and field support for the petroleum, chemical, steel, and pulp and paper industries. Brian is and has been instrumental in the success of Norwest’s large-scale, multi-discipline projects throughout his time here. His management experience is extensive in all facets of engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) for our client’s needs here at Norwest.
randy miller
Mr. Miller is the Vice President of Technical Services directing all technical design and personnel. He has over 35 years of experience in the execution and supervision of multi-discipline design projects at various industrial facilities. Mr. Miller is responsible for the production team’s drawing preparation and review of deliverables. His goals are to provide necessary guidance, motivation, and corrections to Norwest’s design teams through the execution of their projects. He will also collaborate with clients to develop project-specific and client-specific drawings and standards.
