CALIFORNIA AMENDS LEGISLATION TO INCREASE THE STATE’S ACCESS TO BIODIESEL

Curiosity and passion drive Norwest to become experts in the newest technologies of the industry so we can create innovative solutions for our clients’ ever-evolving business opportunities. In the last few years, we have seen many clients across the nation racing to build systems to support the integration of biodiesel.

Producers are incorporating a diverse mix of resources, such as recycled cooking oil, soybean oil, and animal fats, to create either biodiesel or renewable diesel (two separate products commonly mistaken for the other). Distributors across the country are then left to build the necessary infrastructure to store, transfer, and blend finished product, but also to handle the raw materials. Each bio-alternative provides unique design challenges. For example, maintaining a consistent temperature is critical for proper storage of animal fats during the transportation and refining; and vegetable oils require new piping and dedicated systems so as to not come in contact with other products to ensure purity and viability. Norwest’s expertise in all phases of biodiesel production and distribution systems has made us a sought-after firm within the industry.

California has recently made an amendment that increases distributors' ability to store additional biodiesel products in their underground storage tanks. This legislation most directly affects the retail market, though growing demand for access to biodiesel has resulted in Norwest’s increased involvement with alternative fuel projects all around the West Coast. We are excited to be a part of the evolving technology within the oil & gas industry.
